Objective

This project aimed to boost iDiM Architects’ visibility in local search and generate at least 10 qualified leads or phone calls monthly through their website and Google Business Profile. These leads were expected to convert into 3 to 4 new clients monthly. The strategy focused on website improvement, GBP growth, and local SEO ranking performance.

Project Summary

iDiM Architects is a small, three-person architecture firm based in Oakville, Ontario, Canada, serving 13 cities across the Greater Toronto Area (GTA). I worked remotely as a freelance Local SEO Specialist to help improve their online presence and increase lead generation.

The client initially hired me for a 3-month contract, but after seeing consistent growth in search visibility and inbound leads, he extended the project for a full 2 years.

The business had low online visibility and needed a complete digital upgrade. I was responsible for redesigning the WordPress website, optimizing their Google Business Profile, and building a long-term local SEO plan. My strategy focused on technical fixes, content improvements, authority building, and maintaining steady performance across search platforms. The main goal was to generate at least 10 phone calls or leads per month that could turn into paying customers.

What I Did

Website & GBP Audit

I began the project with a full audit of the client’s WordPress website and their Google Business Profile. I identified issues related to speed, indexing, inconsistent NAP details, and GBP category setup. These insights helped shape a clear plan for redesign and SEO actions.

Website Redesign

I redesigned the existing WordPress website to make it clean, responsive, and user-friendly. I improved layout structure, updated the design to align with the brand, and optimized the site for mobile performance.

I also structured the website properly for a local business, with clear service pages, city-specific landing pages, and strong internal linking. This helped both users and search engines understand the content easily. The site speed and user experience were significantly improved, which helped lower bounce rates and improve engagement.

Keyword Research

The client selected most of the target keywords. I reviewed and validated them using Ahrefs and Semrush to ensure they had local search volume and ranking potential. A total of 42 keywords were tracked throughout the campaign.

I grouped the keywords by intent and assigned them to landing pages, service pages, and supporting blog content to strengthen topical relevance.

Technical SEO

I fixed all basic technical SEO issues using tools like Screaming Frog and Optimizer. Tasks included:

  • Setting clean URL structures
  • Optimizing site speed and performance
  • Fixing broken links and redirects
  • Ensuring mobile-friendliness
  • Creating and submitting XML sitemaps
  • Setting up robots.txt
  • Connecting to Google Search Console, Google Analytics, and Bing Webmaster Tools

On-Page SEO

I optimized every page with proper H1 to H3 heading structures, internal linking, metadata, image alt texts, and schema where needed. I followed NLP-based optimization and applied local intent to service and city pages to strengthen search relevance.

I also embedded a Google Map on the contact page and added a consistent NAP (Name, Address, Phone) section in the footer. This helped boost local trust signals and improved the chances of ranking in the local map pack.

Content Optimization

I worked with my team to improve existing content and add missing sections to meet keyword and intent alignment. We also updated service descriptions and location pages to match user search behavior in the GTA area.

Google Business Profile Optimization

I fully optimized the GBP listing by updating categories, service descriptions, hours, geo-tagged images, and regular weekly posts. I used BrightLocal and Local Dominator to track rankings. I also set up Q&A entries and made sure the business was appearing in local packs for key areas.

Link Building

I built a diverse and clean link profile using:

  • Web 2.0 properties and blog posts
  • Press release submissions
  • Google stacking
  • HARO backlink
  • Profile backlinks
  • Image and PDF submissions
  • Comment backlinks
  • Social bookmarking

This helped improve the site’s domain relevance and authority over time.

Citation & Business Listing

I submitted the business to top-tier and niche local directories with accurate NAP data. Listings were created and maintained across platforms like Apple Maps, Yelp, Bing Places, and other Canada-specific directories.

Website Maintenance

Throughout the project, I kept the site updated with plugin and theme checks, regular backups, uptime monitoring, and form testing. This helped maintain performance and avoid common WordPress issues.

Social Media Management

I managed and updated business social profiles with branded posts and local engagement. Content aligned with services, community focus, and seasonal campaigns to keep the brand active online.

Results

  • 42 keywords targeted
  • 40 keywords ranked — some in the local map pack, others on Google SERP Page 1
  • GBP listing ranks well in the targeted area
  • Consistent monthly phone calls from both GBP and the website
